Philadelphia

A city in the province of Lydia in West Asia Minor. It is located approximately 100 miles W of Smyrna and about 26 miles east of Sardis. It is situated near the Cogamus river which is a tributary of the Hermus river (river from Smyrna) and was refounded in ~150 B.C. by Attalus Philadelphus the II, King of Pergamon (reigned from 159-138 B.C.). It was later destroyed by an earthquake in A.D. 17 and accepted funds from Tiberius for the rebuilding of the city. It was a center of wine industry and their chief deity was Dionysus (the "god" of wine otherwise known as bacchus).

The definition of "Philadelphia" is "brotherly love" but the city was later referred to as Neocaesarea and Flavia.

It was also written to and visited by Ignatius of Antioch before his martydom in Rome.
